Our People

John W. Voss, P. Eng., President and Managing Director

John has over 25 years of experience in the Canadian energy sector. He worked for 15 years in the TransCanada PipeLines organization in Toronto and Calgary, including roles in business development and strategic planning in gas marketing, gas supply acquisition and gas storage services. From 1997 to 2001, John was director of the consulting services business of A.E. Sharp Limited. John established Aegent in 2001. John holds a Masters of Business Administration degree (with Distinction) from York University and a Bachelor of Applied Science degree (with Honours) from the University of Toronto. John serves as Chair of the Ontario Energy Association's Energy Markets Joint Sector Committee.

Frank A. Brennan, P. Eng., Senior Consultant

Frank is a professional engineer, with over 30 years of experience in the natural gas transmission and distribution industry with Enbridge Gas Distribution and TransCanada PipeLines. Frank has extensive experience in the upstream gas supply and transportation market and in gas supply planning, gas acquisition, risk management, asset optimization, gas supply operations, and the development of strategies and policies related to gas supply and associated regulatory issues. Frank has testified before the National Energy Board and the Ontario Energy Board on gas supply and transportation facilities issues.

Frank has an engineering degree from Carleton University, and has completed the Executive Program at Queen's University.

Bruce Sharp, P. Eng., Senior Consultant

Bruce is a professional engineer and a chartered industrial gas consultant, with more than 20 years of experience in the energy industry. Prior to joining Aegent, and as principal of his own company, Bruce provided independent advice to medium- and large-volume consumers of electricity and to small generators, on purchasing power and operating in the new Ontario market. As Manager, Power Products and Services with Engage Energy, he was actively involved in the design, sale, and delivery of client products and services targeted at the commodity segment of the electricity business. Bruce's professional experience also includes work at Ontario Hydro as an industrial energy advisor and at The Consumers' Gas Company Limited working with industrial and commercial customers.

Valerie J.M. Young, Director, Research & Analysis

Val has extensive experience from more than 25 years in the energy sector, in pipeline and utility regulation, strategic planning and market analysis with A.E. Sharp Limited, The Consumers' Gas Company Limited, and TransCanada PipeLines. Val holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Honours Mathematics, as well as a Bachelor of Education degree.

Cory Slinger, Senior Consultant & Director, Business Development

Cory has several years of experience in the energy industry in both the natural gas and power sectors. Working in Alberta for Enmax  Energy during Alberta’s transition to a deregulated power market, Cory opened, staffed, and managed Enmax Energy’s Northern Alberta office. Cory then transitioned into the Calgary head office and managed the Key Commercial Accounts team, working to deepen the relationships between ENMAX and its large customers. From ENMAX Cory moved to BP Canada, first working in the BP Canada Power team where he developed competency in the wholesale power market. Moving within BP Canada to the ProGas group, Cory gained valuable experience managing the acquisition of supply, transportation and sale of natural gas across North America. Cory holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree as well as a Masters of Business Administration with an energy concentration.

Peter Chong, Energy Market Analyst

Peter comes to Aegent from the financial services industry.  Peter brings a strong understanding of economics and financial analysis to the Aegent team. He has a Derivatives Market Specialist designation and holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts degee in Economics and German Studies. Peter works with the Aegent team in the continued analysis of commodity pricing trends.

Shawn Zik, Information Systems Analyst

Shawn is responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of Aegent's information systems infrastructure, including those systems responsible for the gathering and analysis of energy consumption and cost data. Shawn has a long history in Information Technology roles and has worked for Several Fortune 500 companies in various roles of development and support. Shawn is a graduate of Software Engineering with Honours.

Kathleen Murray, Office Administrator

Kathleen manages day-to-day administrative processes, and is responsible for verification of energy transactions and invoices and client reporting. Prior to joining Aegent, Kathleen worked in various administrative functions for companies in the financial sector.
